Washington State University Everett (WSU Everett) is a branch campus of Washington State University, a land-grant research university founded in 1890. The Washington State Legislature approved funding for WSU to expand to Snohomish County back in 2011. The campus began with a 95,000-square foot building costing $64 million.

History
Prior to its establishment, regional administrators and politicians had been working to establish a 4-year university in Snohomish County for 23 years. The primary source for higher education located within the county since 1941 has been Everett Community College, serving over 19,000 students annually.
The need for Washington State University's expansion in the region grew out of a need for employees to feed "the state's aerospace and high-tech industries" with an emphasis in the Snohomish, Island and Skagit counties in the area. The first building's architecture on the campus was designed to facilitate mechanical, electrical and software engineering degrees because of this.
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the university was officially held in June 2017, formally opening up the new campus for students beginning in the following Fall 2017 Semester. WSU Everett recorded 222 enrolled undergraduate students for its Fall 2017 Semester, a 17.5% jump from the 189 enrolled the year prior.

Organization and administration
The Chancellor of Washington State University's Everett campus is Paul Pitre. Dr. Pitre is an associate professor of Educational Leadership and Counseling Psychology with a background in working for the U.S. Department of Education. He has compared the impact of Washington State University's expansion onto the Everett community to the "revitalization" that the University of Washington brought to Tacoma.
Student Life
The campus does not yet possess its own independent library and currently shares many of its resources with the neighboring Everett Community College. The parent building of the recently established campus contains state-of-the-art environmental sustainability designs, including a roof with 80 kilowatt photovoltaic solar panels and LED lighting throughout all fixtures. Administrators are hoping the Everett campus is harnessed by WSU students that enroll at the main Pullman branch during the Fall and Spring semesters but return home to Snohomish County during the Summer.
Opportunities for civic engagement by students include a local ASWSU branch that works as an elected student government, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering for undergraduates involved in computer electrical design, and the non-profit organization Society of Women Engineers.
